Is it better/healthier for your hair to get a permanent straightening or just use a ceramic straightener?

Hi everyone,

My Mom has been complaining that my hair is drying out and even thinning down because...I ';overuse the straightener';.

I was wondering if it's better to just get a permanent straightening done, or would I still have to use a ceramic straightener to touch up on my hair after getting my hair fixed properly?

Thanks for any help. ~KARINA~Is it better/healthier for your hair to get a permanent straightening or just use a ceramic straightener?
Chemical straighteners won't make your hair as nice as using a straightener.

As long as you have a decent straightener, a decent Heat protection serum and a gentle technique, its really not that bad to be straightening your hair every day.Is it better/healthier for your hair to get a permanent straightening or just use a ceramic straightener?
it depends on your point of view.if you get permanent straightening, your hair will be straight for a long time but not forever.lol..but yeah.same issue with me.I took the permanent thing and I started to miss my curly but as i said before, then at the end of the time period..my hair was wavy and straight and it looked dumb retarded but its your point of view.soo..i mean whatever you want to do as in have it wavy or your normal hair type.itz cool.but you can still use the straightener jus not all the time.you can blow dry it out i guess or wrap it ever night.idk.different hair types call for different things to do with your hair.

hope it helpss.byee.
i think having a ceramic straightener is better because most of the time, permanent straightening has chemicals in it that can cause the hair to act funny sometimes.
Chemical straightening can be rather hard for the hair as it enters each hair shaft and change the structure of the inner layers of the hair. If the chemical is strong, the effect lasts up to six months.

The constant heat of straightening irons dries out hair and makes it brittle, by gradually getting rid of the protective proteins and oils in it. It's vital to use ceramic irons as these cause least damage than other types.

So which is healthier? In the long term, chemical. You're only damaging your hair once in a few months, whereas with straightening irons, you're damaging hair on a daily basis. =]
permanent straightening is definitely the best solution.

it barely dries out your hair, and if it does then it lasts about 3 days or less. your hair is beautiful and straight, and you won't have to touch a straightening iron again hahahah.

good luck, hope i helped!!!(if oyu think i did please vote me best answer thankss)
I got my hair permanately straightened and yes you still have to use a straightener all it does is make it easier to straighten and it damages your hair SOOO bad. When your hair starts to grow in you can see the difference the top of your head is really curly and the rest is wavy, it took 2 yrs for my hair to look normal again. So i just got a really cute hair cut and wear my hair curly now and i love it. Good luck!
Ive cemically straightened my hair and it does help with not straightening everyday or as often as you usually do i say if your hair is getting dry then to the chemical.
Your mom really must not have anything to do if she keeps checking out and complaining your hair...

Just do what you prefer. do not feel forced. And remember if you blowdry your hair well using a comb,it'll be straight without iron needing.

  • If anyone has ever used a Bed Head 1'; Professional Tourmaline Nano-Ceramic Straightener please answer?

    my straighter just broke.

    [it was a vidal sasson].

i want to get a new one, that works REALLY good.

my hair goes to my shoulders it's kinda naturally straight, and thick.

    i cannot get a chi, so dont say ';oh you should get a chi!';

    because i cant.

    the cost is $69.99

which is a little pricey, but if it works really well, it's worth the money.

    and it's blue. =]]

haha, so would it work well on my hair??

thank you.If anyone has ever used a Bed Head 1'; Professional Tourmaline Nano-Ceramic Straightener please answer?
i think it will work great on your hair, as it works really great on my hair! and it locks in the moisture which doesn't leave my hair in dry condition. it's really good, try it! :)

Is the Chi Straightener any good? Or what ceramic straightener gives shine and a silky, soft look to hair?

I run a salon %26amp; spa, and every couple months I like switching gears by changing straightener brands. Yes, that means every one of my 43 employees will be provided with an amazing straightener... the market has referred us to the ';Chi Straightener';... a couple of my employees already use it at home and said it's amazing, and I should for sure switch to it, but I'm biting my tongue at this fact because apparently what I've heard is that they really pull on your hair when you pull it down along a piece of hair. I've also heard that there are many different kinds of Chi Straighteners and I'm not sure which one to take.

If you have any experience with Chi Straighteners or own one now, give me full details on the type, the effects, what type of hair you originally have and why you like/hate your straightener. If you don't use a Chi, please leave the type of straightener you use below, its effects, what type of hair you have, what you like/hate about it, where it can be purchased in Canada, and/or any websites that ship into Canada.

Thanks everyone! Is the Chi Straightener any good? Or what ceramic straightener gives shine and a silky, soft look to hair?
Hi, I have the original CHI.

My hair is thick, curly/wavy and frizzy.

The straightener lasts for years, but after the first one it doesn't work very well, it makes your hair shiny and soft and very straight at first, but it stops working over time.

You can buy it at www.folica.com

Has anyone tried the The Power of Pink Ceramic Straightener?? ((10 points for best answer!!!!!!!!))?

    heres a pic

I want a straightner that works well, heats up fast, gets my thick wavy hair straight and shiny, and dosent cause too much damage. Please tell me about your experinces with this straightner, i want to know if its worth my money or its just a throw away.Has anyone tried the The Power of Pink Ceramic Straightener?? ((10 points for best answer!!!!!!!!))?
Cool! we both have the same kind of hair.

I did buy this cheap straightening iron for like $14 and i regret it. It only snagged my hair and it didn't even straighten at all!!!

For thick hair, I don't suggest Conair. I've read good/bad reviews about it. Bad news usually came from people with thick hair :\

Like above, a flat iron will do miracles for you.

Folica.com is where i got my Solia (1 and one fourth ) flat iron. I've read that it's as good as a Sedu and Sedu is as good as a CHI. A Solia flat iron works really well for me. I'm happy i convinced my mom to get it and she loves it too! It's only $88 compared to $120 and when bought from folica it will include a flat iron mat which will be useful for cooling. :]Has anyone tried the The Power of Pink Ceramic Straightener?? ((10 points for best answer!!!!!!!!))?
well i have very thick flippy hair and i like to use the brand zoe like this flat iron

i dont like conair as much

most straitners work great as long as they get 400 degrees f or more

    atleast from my experience

    goodluck =]
its ok but not the best i recomend a Kiyoseki or a sedu

Should i get the Remington Wet 2 Straight Ceramic Straightener, 2';?

okay so recently my chi broke :'( and it was the worst day everr. so i was looking for a cheap but good straightener from walmart or something. so can you guys tell me if the wet 2 straight ceramic straigtener frm remington is good? leave you comments about it so i can decide to get it or not. or if you dont know about it but know about a different one that you think will work, then tell me about it. thanks!! :)Should i get the Remington Wet 2 Straight Ceramic Straightener, 2';?
I love mine. However, i have thin hair so the basic straighteners work well for me. A friend of mine with thick, curly hair liked hers.Should i get the Remington Wet 2 Straight Ceramic Straightener, 2';?
personally i love mine!! its wonderful

How hot is the 25 on the Revlon ceramic straightener?

well yesterday i went to my friends house to sleep over. i went with my hair wet and in braids...i have naturally curly hair so you can imagine the afro i had going on there. i have a professional flat iron that cost $70. i can NEVER get my hair straight no matter how hard i work on it. anyways my friend has a Revlon ceramic flat iron with heat settings from 1 to 25. she had it on 25 and offered to flat iron my hair.i said yes and she got it BONE straight! i was amazed because my hair was crazy. i was wondering how hot the 25 setting is on that flat iron so i can adjust mine to the same temperature because mine goes by degrees. How hot is the 25 on the Revlon ceramic straightener?
Probably around 300+ degrees or so.

OK. I have a conair 3/4'; ceramic straightener and it doesn't work on my hair. I need a good straigthener! Help?

I have thin hair and I have to turn my straightener all the way up. That doesn't seem right to me. I want a new straightener but I have no clue what to get or even look for so I need assistance. Everybody says that CHI straighteners are the best, but will they be too hot on thin hair? And can you adjust the temperature? Please give any help that you can! Thanks!OK. I have a conair 3/4'; ceramic straightener and it doesn't work on my hair. I need a good straigthener! Help?
i have a remington and i love it, its pretty cheap and works wondersOK. I have a conair 3/4'; ceramic straightener and it doesn't work on my hair. I need a good straigthener! Help?
CHIs are amazing, but their prices aren't. The Bed Head rock star straightener is AMAZING and cheap. It doesn't have an adjustable temp, but it heats up in about 10 seconds, doesn't pull, works great on ALL hair types, and can also curl and wave your hair. It works amazingly well and only costs about $60.00
i have a chi...and no you cant adjust the temperature (atleast not on mine) its kinda expensive but well worth it...its the best straightener i've ever had and my hair is kinda thin
i love my chi and no you cant adjust the temp but they work great on thin hair and don't damage it trust me, allot of hairstylist recommend it
    Chi!
i have really thin hair and it works great still.

    just dont forget heat protective
try a chi. my friend has one! it works great!
Chi and GHD are great high end straighteners...the low end that still gives great results and do straighten all types of hair are Revlon and bed head.

i have thick hair, i usually bring my Revlon 1 inch hair straightener traveling, it heats up quick and it cools quick. it has 25 heat settings. ive had it for 8 years and it still has not gone out...its really durable and trusty surprisingly and it was only about 25- 30 dollars lol...ive tried the bed head straightener, it does not have a setting but it does straighten well and it does heat up quick.

chi straighteners do have an adjustable heat setting

i have a chi, and revlon hair straightener (i dislike conair for straightening too, they do better with curlers)

  • How is the Bed Head 1.25';Ceramic Straightener?

my hair is mostly naturally straight, but every night before school i always take a shower so my hair is dry in the morning. although a negative impact of this is that my hair is all wavy the next morning because i just slept on it, and i hate it! i just saw the commercial for this straightener, and it is like $70, but that doesn't really matter right now. the straightener i currently have was like $10 and it takes forever to actually straighten, although if you do if for an hour it does do what it is suppose to. i need an efficient straightener that does what it is suppose to do in like 15 min.! thats how long it should take to straighten my hair, but does anyone know how it works? thanks! i also heard it has a cool color changing heat sensor on the side of it! - thanks again! How is the Bed Head 1.25';Ceramic Straightener?
i've tried them both but the best one on the market is the chi flat ironHow is the Bed Head 1.25';Ceramic Straightener?
try www.makeupalley.com for tons of reviews. good luck! i'm pretty sure you can find almost any brand.

Has anybody tried Conair's Pro Ceramic Straightener?

I was thinking about buying it since my hair is really thick(I broke my other 2'' straightener)and I hate blow drying it. It drys wet hair(I can't wash my hair unless I blow dry it and I need my mom's help)and dry hair. I wanted it while I was on vacation, but I didn't have enough money to buy it then. But now that I'm getting paid tomorrow, I just might buy it from target. I'm torn between the reviews it got. I wanted to know if anybody else has bought it before. Here's the link just in case:http://www.target.com/Conair-Pro-Ceramic/a>Has anybody tried Conair's Pro Ceramic Straightener?
No, save your money. This will do nothing for you. You need to get a professional iron. Go to a beauty salon and ask them to help you. Don't go to Sally's. You need a really iron. Buy one from a stylist that is a 2-4 inch plates. This will cut your time major in half. Check on ebay for a pro iron. It will cost you about 100.00 and up. Major worth it!!!! You will be happier you did it. With your thick hair you need the proper tools.

Tip your hair dresser 19 yrs. exp.Has anybody tried Conair's Pro Ceramic Straightener?
YES!!! I have it and I love it. I use it all the time to straighten my hair. Its not the best when it comes to drying and straightening wet hair because you have to straighten 1 spot over and over. Other than that it works great. If you really want a good wet to straight straightener then I suggest this:

    http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productD/a>
it is a great product. you have to take smaller sections of the hair and apply a serum to the hair for better results. maybe a little mousse to keep the hair from reverting.
i have that straightner %26amp;%26amp; i love it! my best friend has it to %26amp;%26amp; she loves hers.

its a great straightner...i would definately recommend you get it.

Would you rather buy a Chi Ceramic Straightener, or a Hai Straightener?

I want one of these that lasts longs, makes my curly hair spaghetti straight and shiny. Also, I want one that is easy to use . Thanks so much, guys:)Would you rather buy a Chi Ceramic Straightener, or a Hai Straightener?
CHI all the way! i have it and ive had it for like 3 years now and it still is in great shape. My hair gets so silky and straight its amazing, all my friends love my hair. it heats up fairly quick and its really easy to use and store. to protect my hair from the heat, i use biolex biologe biolace somehting like that i forget the name, but its a matrix product and i think you can get it at any hair salon probably and it works great! ive been straightening my hair for three years now and my hair is as healthy as ever! hope i helped:)Would you rather buy a Chi Ceramic Straightener, or a Hai Straightener?
i have a chi and it is amazing! it straightens my curly hair in half the time my old one did. it only takes me about 10-15 minutes. and it makes it super straight and shiny. and it stays straight
DEFINATLEY THE CHI CERAMIC STRAIGHTNER :) It makes your hair super duperr straight and shiny! So worth the price. Also the CHI is the best straightner out there, so if you want a straightner, i suggest CHI
    Chi :)

    thanks!

p.s. my heat protectant is from ion and it is like oil-y stuff, so if you put too much your hair looks greasy.

My REVLON PERFECT HEAT ceramic straightener?

hi, i just bought this straightener at Target today. But i didn't open it because im afraid it wont work well. My previous straightener, it was a Conair one.. for $19.99, it was 2'; ceramic, lasted for about 2-3 years. Now it broke, and doesn't heat up :( so i bought this one instead.... but i don't know if it will work nicely... and, how long will it LAST??????

thanks! My REVLON PERFECT HEAT ceramic straightener?
Revlon makes good straightners. The one that i use is revlon too. It might not work if you have really coarse curly hair. Otherwise it will give you the same effect as loreal. I have been using mine for about 2 years and it still works fine.My REVLON PERFECT HEAT ceramic straightener?
Trust me, if your hair is really curly or maybe difficult to straighten, this is not the straightener for you. These kinds of straighteners fail at heating up fast and don't last very long.

Most of those straighteners in Target, Walmart, etc etc, aren't real ceramic, it's just coated metal. Perhaps you should consider investing in a good straightener. Sedu works very well and last long, but it's around the hundred dollar range.

  • Do I NEED a ';ceramic straightener'; to use on the relaxer for hair?

i wanna use Rusk's Radical Anti Curl to straighten my curly/wavy hair but my dad says you need to buy a ';$300 ceramic straightener'; to do the job. He's been cutting hair and he's owned a hair salon in chicago for over 30 years, so I trust him when he says that I need the damn straightner thing. But, is that REALLY how you apply the ';anti curl'; at home? I heard you just comb it in. Help please?!?Do I NEED a ';ceramic straightener'; to use on the relaxer for hair?
it depends on the directions for the straightening chemical you want to use. you should have a chemical relaxer done by a salon anyways to make sure you dont damage your hair and it comes out right. id trust your dad on this one

so i have it. it's not the best one and it doesn't straighten my hair the way i want it.

since you can use it on wet hair i was wondering if you ever tried?? i don't want to risk my hair and i'm not sure if it's going to work. anyone tried to straighten your hair when they were wet??If you have Dry N' Straight Wet-to-Dry 1 1/2'; Ceramic Straightener by Conair...?
i used to have a wet-to-straight flat iron and yea you can actually use it on wet hair. and it doesn't cause anymore harm to your hair than it would if it was dry. hope i helped! If you have Dry N' Straight Wet-to-Dry 1 1/2'; Ceramic Straightener by Conair...?
Don't! You will completely ruin your hair. It's not worth it.

Hope I was of assistance. :)
i use the remington wet to dry.....walmart $18 (well that was the price when i bought it about a year ago) and LOVE it!! it dries my hair as it straightens!!!!
Just let your hair air dry, then use it on damp/dry hair. It will take far too long to use it on wet hair. Plus, you get much better results when you use it on dryer hair. :)
those types of straighteners can cause your hair severe damage, it is drying
i have the same and it works but i only use it when my hair is dry

    Looking for good ceramic straightener?

Ok, so I'm looking for a good straightener. One that is going to last a long time. Prices don't matter that much right now, just anything under 300. There was this lady at the mall that did the cotton ball test on it, when she would leave the straightener on for 5 minutes and it didnt damage it at all. It was pink or something, I don't know. But I am looking for one that will not damage my hair, I'm trying to grow it out. My past ones have prevented me from growing it out because it would fry my hair. So any suggestions will be helpful. I'm giving out best answers, but to only the ones that answer my questions about it and tell me more about it. Thanks in advance :)Looking for good ceramic straightener?
    Sebastian is great!

    and only $100

it straightens your hair really good and you can also make it curly or wavyLooking for good ceramic straightener?
I use Vidal Sassoon, it was like 17 bucks, but works really good.

Theres no need for such an expensive one.
try the conair wet/dry hair straitener.

its only like $30 but it works soo well.

ive had it for 5 monthes and use it everyday and it has never damaged my hair.
there are alot of good straighteners under 300

    1. CHI-- the best one ever!!! it is about 100-200 dollars

2.GHD--- veryyy good one from 189-300 dollars

3.sephora brand---pretty good around 100-200 dollars or more

**you can purchase these at any sephora store or go to www.sephora.com

Dont get the straighteners from walmart, they are crap!! Believe me i've tried them all, in my opinon CHI worked the greatest!!
My friend has a Chii and they work great! They are sold at the mall for $99.00 right now also they have mini ones and they come in different colors and fashions. It doesnt damage your hair and does an amazing job!
Braun Satin Hair from braun is very wonderful

    here it is picture

    http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:Piig/a>
CHI's do not last long. They break way too easily. Don't waste your money, and don't listen to the one's that are telling you it's the best. Sedu is one of the best straighteners out there and it is only $100.

To purcase a Sedu at the cheapest price, go to Folica.com , scroll to the very top and click on Hair Styling. On the left hand side, there will be and A - Z brand list. Find Sedu, click on it, and everything else from there is self - explanitory.

For more information on a Sedu, you can go to sedubeauty.com.

I would also recommend using a 1 inch instead of 1 1/2 inch, because the 1 1/2 doesn't do curls very well.

It reaches 410 degrees, with tempature control if you would like a lower tempature. CHI does not have tempature control. That means if the set tempature is too high for your hair, it can fry.

Celebrities have nice hair, and they don't use CHI. They use Sedu. There is something called Sedu hairstyles on every beauty website. No CHI hairstyles right?

    Never use on wet hair.

Also, on Folica.com, people can post reviews on products after they have tried them. Here are they stats on CHI:

73 people say it is 1 star (bad) out of out of 1275 total reviews.

    Sedu:

29 people say it is 1 star (bad) out of 3881 total reviews.

    That speaks for itself!

If your hair starts to get damaged, turn down the tempature.

    Take a look at this.

Note how CHI is number 7.

Note how GHD is number 4.

Sedu is the top flat iron and there is proof!

Or if you want something a little cheaper but also is still better than the CHI, get a Solia, it is second in line to the Sedu.

    Remington Slimline Digital Ceramic Straightener?

I was just wondering whether anyone knows if these are any good?

I have slighty thick, long and very layered hair.

Does anyone know of any problems associated with the straightener or any problems experienced using it?

If anyone has suggestions for better and similar priced hair straighteners that would be great too. The max amount I want to pay is $100 AUS.

Ive been looking around for a cheap hair straightener with slim plates and heat settings, so far this was the best one I could find for its price and the reviews I have read for it are all quite positive.Remington Slimline Digital Ceramic Straightener?
Dont get it. It tends to rip/pull out hair and really isnt suitable for your hairtype.

    Try a bigger straightener

    Beast of luck!

My VIDAL SASSOON CERAMIC STRAIGHTENER isn't getting hot anymore!?

I've had my VIDAL SASSOON CERAMIC STRAIGHTENER close to a year. I got my hair colored and cut a few weeks ago, so I started using my straightener more often.

It's been working fine until a few days ago. I'll plug it up and turn it on and I also make sure the temp is up as well and it doesn't get hot at all!

I've tried different outlets, but only one of the plates gets hot and the other one is cold.

Has anyone had this problem? My VIDAL SASSOON CERAMIC STRAIGHTENER isn't getting hot anymore!?
maybe you should just get a new one.

I got a conair one from Target for about $15 %26amp; it works really well. it heats up really really hot in about a minute.

hope i helped. My VIDAL SASSOON CERAMIC STRAIGHTENER isn't getting hot anymore!?
It's used up and broken. Sometimes when you use it a lot, it just automaticly stops working and it also depends how thick your hair is.

Go back to the place where you bought it and ask them if you can return it and get another one because It wasn't heating up.
I had a Vidal Sassoon ceramic straightener, and it seriously was the worst hair product I've ever used. It took a while to get hot and it totally fried my hair. Throw it away and get a GHD.
If you use your straighteners a lot they don't last as long as they're intended to. I think if you rely on straighteners you really ought to buy a new straightener every year. It will work more efficiently and is better for your hair as the products you use before hand build up on the surface- which wears away anyway.

You could try cleaning your straighteners (make sure theyre unplugged) with a damp towel every month or so which might make them last longer.

Is a ceramic straightener healthier for my hair than a metal one?

I HAVE a metal straightener and I feel like ceramic makes my hair shiner, smoother and is healthier. But is that Conair Steam Straightener even better? It has metal plates but I like the way it combs through the hair unlike regular straighteners. I just want what works and is best for my hair! Does anyone also have a hair care product for before or after straightening that helps to heal my hair? I don't use deep conditioning because my hair is very thin.Is a ceramic straightener healthier for my hair than a metal one?

I'm looking to buy a good quality straightener that's full ceramic... a lot of people swear by a CHI but it's only ceramic-plated, just like my Conair which I got for $20...

I was thinking of a GHD styler but I heard it has no heat control and shouldn't be used more than 2x a week... I straighten my curly hair every other day when I wash my hair so I'm thinking GHD might not be for me.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!Best ceramic straightener?
i have ghds...i use them everyday of the week. my hair is in really good condition and people always comment on how soft and good condition it is. if you use ghd's then make sure you put loads of conditioner on your hair when you wash it and make sure that its a really good brand conditioner aswell. if your that worried about the damage to your hair then use a heat protecting spray and this will protect it from the heat. goodluck =]Best ceramic straightener?
CHI. I have the same hair, it works for me.

A Chi is not like the Con-air!! I did the cheap route too. A chi heats up in less than a minute to 300+ degrees. The ceramic plates help distribute the heat more evenly to get more straightening done in one pass. The cord is even longer so you can have a bigger range of motion when styling your hair. Chi's and Paul Mitchell flat irons are the only straighteners that my stylists have used on my hair.

I use my Chi frequently, 3-5x a week. It takes me ten minutes or less to straighten my hair, depending on how I am styling it. My hair is down to the middle of my back. It hasn't damaged my hair too much since every time I get my hair cut my stylists are always amazed at how healthy my hair is.

My best advice is when straightening your hair break it up into sections to straighten, it will look better and take less time!!! Get the Chi, you won't regret it.
