My hairdresser said that anything other than GHD ie cheaper straighteners damage your hair?

Is this true and if so why? (she was not trying to sell me ghds btw as the salon doesnt sell straighteners)

I know even GHDS damage your hair as its heat but she said she sees so many girls who damage their hair using cheaper straighters.

I need a new pair (i have always had ghds in the past) and just trying to make up my mind which ones to get ghds or cheaper make.My hairdresser said that anything other than GHD ie cheaper straighteners damage your hair?
that's not right really. I have had 4 pairs of GHD's not all have broken but I wanted the pink ones when they came out etc.

However I had a pair that blew a fuse when I put them in and we checked it with an electrician and the wall socket was fine it was all down to the straightener - that's made me kind of guarded against GHD's.

Anyway I was without them for a month as my salon had to order in new ones so meanwhile i used some Andrew Collinge straighteners and they seemed exactly the same as my GHD's.

I couldn't notice any difference what so ever, hair stayed as healthy.

I think it all depends on how much product/how often you use your hair straighteners as well.My hairdresser said that anything other than GHD ie cheaper straighteners damage your hair?
If you use cheaper or less effective straighteners then you have to pull them through each section of hair more times to achieve the same effect that you get from putting GHD's through your hair much more quickly. The cheaper straighteners will damage your hair because you are actually putting the heat on your hair for longer than you are with the GHD's and you are pulling on it more too, causing breakage and leading to split ends. If you have very fine hair that is fairly straight anyway then you could definitley get away with buying cheaper straighteners but if your hair is thick or wavy then GHD's are probably your best bet. You can get them a little bit cheaper if you know a hairdresser, they can get them at cost price for you which the last time I bought mine was about 拢70.
Treseme straighteners have never damaged my hair? My hair has always been soft and shiny and I hardly ever get split ends. I use treseme everything when it comes to hair products and they work a treat. Treseme straighteners are cheaper, they have a heat control dial and they heat real quick. Always use heat protection spray.

Remember, GHD are very good, but not because they'll damage your hair LESS! Every straightener will have the same amount of heat they give out (roughly) it mainly depends on the heating plates.

Good luck! The cheapest treseme straighteners are 拢20!!! And long lasting, guarenteed!
is she joking ?

GHD's are the worst for hair.

I'm not even joking, they make my hair all dry and lifeless.

I use FHI's, they don't ruin your hair like GHD's, and i'm pretty sure they're cheaper.

they also have a temperature gauge on them so you can change the heat.

I have a friend who uses the Tresemme ones, i used to have these but they broke, and her hair is perfect, i'm not even joking, it's in such good condition and she straightens it everyday.

ALWAYS use heat protection.

that'll protect your hair no matter what brand you use.
There are other good straighteners out there eg. the more expensive Babylis straighteners. I have anti-frizz, ionic, Nicky Clarke straighteners and have never had any problems. Remington are also good. I always look for straighteners on sale that have been a lot more rather than ones that came out cheap though.
The new GHD IV are great for thick hair, I bought some recently. GHD have got 3 widths. My personal preference is the medium sized plates (the styler) but

your wife may have a preference for wider plates. Everyone is different with their choice. The medium plates are better though because they go closer to the

root %26amp; can be used for curling %26amp; other stuff. Is it at all possible for you to find out if she has a particular preferance for wider plates? Maybe from a

sister or girlfriend of hers? If not, just buy a pair then exchange them if she prefers a different size.

Good choice of pressie!
The wet to straight one I have doesn't seem to damage my hair much but I put products in my hair like bio silk, anti snap, anti frizz, etc.

I think it depends on hair type and how you care for your hair as well. My little cuz has fried hers with a cheap straightener from walmart. Most of her hair is damaged and dry.

I haven't had much of a problem with straighteners though.
The problem with cheap straighteners is that they reach a very high temperature which damages your hair. GHDs are better because they dont, stick with GHDS they are definately the best! I would never go back!!
Cheap straightners burn your hair, not heat it so it will straighten.

Stick with GHDs. They are amazing.
Well i think GHD's cause more damage because they go up to a hotter heat setting :~)
