if the bible says for men not to cover your head with long hair , why is all the pics of jesus depict him in long hair?If the bible says no long hair for men?
That is an easy answer. Over 10 centuries had passed before the first picture of Jesus was painted and it was painted by someone that did not know their Bible very well. They assumed that Jesus was under the Nazarite vow because He was from Nazareth. Under that vow the person started the vow shaving his head then not cutting his hair until the vow was up. If he came in contact with a dead body or became unclean he would have to shave his head and start all over again. So if Jesus was a Nazarite He would have had his head shaved most of the time because touching the dead and those that were sick broke the vow, but he was not a Nazarite. He was just a Nazarine from the city of Nazareth. He probably had short hair because most follow the style of the Cesar at the time and we know that Julius Cesar had short hair.If the bible says no long hair for men?
Where did you read that?
ive never seen in the bible where it says not to have long hair
Excellent question and I never thought about it. Where does it say that in the bible and is it a direct translation or used as a phrase relating to some other act???
I would like to see what answer you get from this, I wonder if the spiritual leaders out there will just ignore the question cause they know they have been stumped LOL
All the pics of Jesus are from peoples imagination. I don't believe Jesus really had long hair. I mean why would he say in the bible it is a shame for a man to have long hair if he had it?.... BTW i can't remember the scripture but i do know that it is in the bible!
Don't be silly Mary was a virgin.
PAUL alone says that. Many people in the Old Testament had long hair. Paul wanted to change everything to suit himself in the ';new improved'; version of Christianity. He won. Most Christians today are Paulists.
It doesnt say that.
1 Cor 11:14
To people who said the Bible does not say this - Why is it religous people, who claim to be christians, jump in with their indignations eager to defend the Bible without any knowledge of what the Bible does or does not say! Speaks poorly of such individuals. A Christian would not do such a thing! A Christian would read the Bible and know what it says before opening their mouth (or keyboard).
I would love to see the God who sent Moses the 10 commandments and the Jews Jesus Christ. SHOW ME!
Paul in Corinthians (see the link)
';This much is certain: the custom referred to had to do with the different head adornments which were appropriate for men and women in the context of liturgical functions within the congregation. Paul's preoccupation with the head (vs. 4f., 7, 10, 13) and with hair (vs. 6, 14f.) makes this clear and provides the most obvious clue for identifying the practices at Corinth which he found objectionable. According to verses 14f., it is proper in the nature of things for men to have short hair and women to have long hair. ';
'Paul' was writing after the time of Christ so I guess he didn't discuss matters of sartorial elegance in too much detail with the big fella.
Is there a passaae in the bible prohibiting men from wearing long hair? Maybe a particular person for a particular purpose.
I would treat persons in the bible wearing long hair as something that has to do with the climate where those persons were located. Imagine Jesus and the 12 diciples who were in the middle east which is located along the equator, and who often were on the go from one place to another, would not their scalp suffer from sunburn?
The purpose of this was not to for men to cut their hair to what we consider short today. Remember that in those days ';long hair'; referred to hair that went to the waist or knees. That is a fairly accurate description of the ';priests'; of a pagan religion in Corinth (the recipients of the letter that states something similar to what you're referencing). The purpose was so that Christians would not try to look like these people.
PS The bible does NOT say it is a sin. It says in 1 Corinthians 11:14 ';Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair it is a disgrace to him,'; this is very strong language, but it is not meant to condemn the readers. Take a look at verse 16- ';But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.';
In other words, it isn't that big of a deal! If you can't agree, then at least agree to disagree and move on!
I'm not sure the Bible commands men not to have long hair. As to Jesus having long or short hair or a beard for that matter, we really do not know because many men in the Roman Empire cut their hair short including the Hebrews.
Contect. Read the Bible in context.
What we might consider 'long hair' by today's social standards is NOT what was considered 'long' by the social standards of 2,000 years ago.
Jesus's hair, that might be considered 'long' by today's social standards, was merely average length hair for the time.
Read the Bible in context. You will not be able to properly interpret the Bible unless you know something of the times the book was written AND who wrote the book.
';What does the Bible say about hair length? Should men have long hair and women have short hair?';
The 1 Corinthians 11:14-15 passage is found in the context of a paragraph that focuses on the distinctions between men and women and how that was to be observed in Christ’s church. In contrast to the natural head covering God gave to women in their long hair, Paul makes the statement that while long hair is a woman’s “glory” it is a man’s “shame.” And he states that even nature teaches us that it is a shame for a man to have long hair.
Thus, while there is no specific guideline as to how often one should cut his hair or at what specific length to cut it, it is clear that God intended for there to be a distinction between men’s hair and women’s hair length and that the idea of “unisex” hair cuts are contrary to this distinction. What the Bible is saying is that women should generally have long hair, and men should generally have short hair. A woman should not have a man’s haircut, a man should not have a woman’s haircut. We should be able to tell if a person is a man or a woman by their hair.
Where are you getting this? it does not say that!!
Where does it say that? Samson was required to have long hair to keep his strength.
The new testament says it is a shame to have long hair for men, Samson was a nazarite in the old testament, they had codes of conduct, long hair was one of them, samson did not live under the new testament command.
it says in Leviticus that men are not allowed to shave or trim the hair from their temples.
If you look at the Jehovah's Witnesses' accounts of Jesus, he doesn't have long hair.
Friend, you have definetly heard or read wrong
Because the bible is a book that continually contradicts itself, thats what happens when various people contribute to a collection.
