It depends on their personality. If they're a jock, small spikes or the front gelled up is awesome. If they're a skater, they need longish hair. But still short at the same time. If they are emo, emos have long hair. funny or smart guys can go with either. Ugly guys should go with short hair, because i see tons of ugly guys that have long hair and its just nasty :( Good loking guys can do whatever the heck they want to their hair. :D Just with long hair, it should always be styled a bit and should never get longer than the chin or it's unflattering. Also they have to take good care of it, because even a little greasy hair is a big turnoff.

There is one rule that applies to bald men and men with long hair -- you have to have the face for it and the confidence to pull it off. Personally I like it short and clean cut -- it looks very masculine and it shoes off facial features. I dated a guy with SUPER LONG HAIR -- I swear his hair was longer than mine and now that I think about it, it gives me the creeps. I'm trying to grow my hair long. It's about 4-5'; now. I can barely tuck it behind my ears. It looks very shabby sometimes, unless I gel my hair.
