How do I clean the plates on a ceramic straightener?

I've noticed that my flat-iron has dark spots on the plates, probably from products that I have used in my hair. I'm wondering what would be a way to clean them? They're 100% ceramic plates, if that makes any difference. Thanks! How do I clean the plates on a ceramic straightener?
When the straightener is off and the plates are cold, get a damp (NOT wet or dripping!) cloth and wipe them.

Detergent or sharp objects can ruin the plates. How do I clean the plates on a ceramic straightener?
I usually take a damp paper towel when my straightener is off, unplugged, and cool and run it up and down the plates a few times. I also use like a bobby pin or something to get in the little creases on the sides because my hair products always build up on the sides and it looks icky =/ hahaha.
i've seen straightener cleaner in beauty stores like sally's beauty. i'm sure they are not that expensive.
Any beauty supply store should have hot iron cleaners.
